about

This song is an homage to my other half-ancestry: the region of Epirus, in North-Western Greece. Its high mountains and local culture has been etched in me, and as a result, I composed this tune full of melodies inspired by the region. Epirus is one of the most ancient regions of Greece, with history spanning from the Greek Dark Ages in around 1100BC until the AD Roman era and Byzantine times, to the late Ottoman occupation of Greece. Olympias, Alexander the Great's mother and Macedonian queen, was born and raised in Epirus, from a famous royal family that descended from the blood line of Hercules.
In the song there's a depiction of the famous Greek mythical adventure of Deadalus and his son Ikarus, who were the first men to fly, using wings made of wax, in an attempt to escape the Cretan king Minos, who had enslaved Ikarus and used as a functioning hostage Daedalus (it is said that Daedalus had designed Minos' palace in Knossos, hence the nick name "labyrinth palace", a smart construction so as to keep the king safe from any potential plots to assassinate him (Crete had defeated Athens in an unlucky war, at that time, and Daedalus was Athenian).
But Ikarus flew high enough to burn his wax wings; he fell to his death on an island that took after his name: Ikaria, the island of Ikarus, in the Aegean sea.

lyrics

Take your wings and learn to fly
Fear no more, just go ahead and fly away
Clouds may be your hive so far
never do look back
Gaze our fate on to the eternal paradise

Looking for to leave this old world
Looking for the life within

Fading out
everytime we would reach for the sun
Waiting for God now
to heal our bodies as we die

Looking for to leave this old world
Looking for the life within

Deep in this labyrinth we hide
Up in the fountains of light
we ride the dawn
We drive the shadows off

Looking for to leave this old world
Looking for the life within
